Ignorance is Bliss

May I confess my sins with you? Let me tell you of my personal struggle the past few years. Unfortunately, I’ve come to the point where I realize there are so many people in the world who are suffering. Don’t just look at my experience with this, but there are so many others who have lived the same way. Oh, how I wish I could be ignorant of this suffering. It’s a burden to care for those in need. But if we don’t care for them, maybe no one will.

Being young allows us to see the world as innocent. A world with no death, everyone has a friend, and good always triumphs evil. As adults, we’ve come to grievous realizations that this is not true. People are hurting. We want to turn a blind eye and keep living our life. In some cases, people do such. So, here’s the question: What are we to do with this realization?

The answer is neither to not turn a blind eye nor suffer watching. The answer is to do something about it. This is why it’s part of the mission of the Millennial Spark to talk about rather dark issues. We need to wake up! We need to do something about this! Don’t get me wrong. We’re not going to save the world. Only Jesus can do that, and even He didn’t end the consequences of sin. We still live with these consequences to this day.

Ignorance is bliss. It’s painless, but that doesn’t mean the pain doesn’t exist in others. In addition, it’s willful ignorance that causes us to suffer. We turn a blind eye and suppress our thoughts. Instead, let us get up from the couch. May we hold onto our hearts and help those who are hurting! Let us do something about this!

What are some ways we can help others? Jesus said it best. It’s through love. We can go out and volunteer at our local God’s pantry. Or perhaps we can join PRIDE cleanup! There are so many ways to fight in this world. To make a difference. This is our mission. Put ignorance in the past, and let’s do something about this!
