Setting Embers on Fire
You’re burnt out. You can’t go on in life. Your preacher is telling you to “keep living for Christ,” but you’ve ran out of steam. What are you to do? How are you to deal with it?
First of all, realize that it’s not about you or what you’re planning to do. It’s about what Christ already did 2000 years ago. Next, realize that it’s okay to become tired and burnt out. This is what happens when you live passionately. Eventually, you’re going to lose that passion, and it’s okay. And after that, understand that you’re making a difference in the world. It might be tiring, but someone has to get the message out. Just because you’re tired doesn’t mean the world stops. It keeps going. And there are people out there depending on your work. There are people out there who depend on you to keep going.
If we ask Christ what we are to do, he would recommend that we “return to our first love.” What does this mean? If you read about the church of Ephesus in Chapter 2 of Revelation, you’ll learn of a church that lost steam for its passion for Christ. And Christ was coming to them to let them know they needed a revival. Just to let you know, the church of Ephesus never started a revival. And what happened to them? If you do research, you’ll learn the new and passionate religions of the day came in and smothered out the Christian church. This is how important revival is. It’s about passion. How much are you willing to strive for your beliefs? If we’re standing for what is true, we’d better keep going. Or people will find themselves lost.
We’re in this fight between good and evil. If we find ourselves tired, what’s the answer? The answer is you find inside of you what gives you strength. And then you keep on going, because people depend on you. We all have a uniqueness that God puts in us when he made us. What’s unique about you? Find that uniqueness, and whatever puts you on fire for Christ. Set a fire and let it burn. Be a light in this dark world, and thrive on it.
It’s hard to start a fire when there is so many embers. But remember, this is what you believe in. This is to be the purpose that you wake up in the morning. You put on the whole armor of God and you go fight for what is good and pure in this world. So be that soldier for God who doesn’t quit. Keep on going. Keep on fighting. And when all is said and done; when the night is over; when the war has been won, you will be richly rewarded by Christ in heaven. Don’t live for this life, but live for the next life.
And lastly, don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you’re struggling, go to your brothers and sisters in Christ and let them know. They will pray for you and be a crutch for you during this difficult time. We are all soldiers in Christ fighting for the same cause. We are to be there for each other.
