The Shelter

To all who are looking down Holding on to hearts still wounding For those who’ve yet to find it The place is near where love is moving Cast off the robes you’re wearing Set aside the names that you’ve been given May this place of rest in the fold of your journey Bind you to hope You will never walk alone

The problem in life is this: How do we pick up the threads of an old life? How do you go on, when in your heart you begin to understand… there is no going back? There are some things that time cannot mend. Some hurts that go too deep. That take hold.

Don’t be fooled. There is a time coming in which will question our faith. A time where the heart of men and women will be tested. There is no easy answer here. And don’t be angry at me for pointing the obvious. Let us admit these problems and hurts. Then, let’s do something about it.

Let’s be real here. We all have mistakes and regrets. We all have problems and fears. Acceptance is the first stepping stone to healing. Acknowledgment is the first point to address these issues. Other options only hinder the question or make it worse. This is the solution to our soul.

If our hearts are turned to stone There is hope we know the rocks will cry out And the tears aren’t ours alone Let them fall into the hands that hold us Come away from where you’re hiding Set aside the lies that you’ve been living May this place of rest in the fold of your journey Bind you to hope We will never walk alone

Church is like a hospital, and Christ is the ultimate healer. But it’s more than that. When we go through life, what are we to do when the unspeakable happens? What do we do when what we hold sacred is torn? In these instances, sin looks so innocent. This is the darkness of this world. Whether you admit it now or not, this darkness will overtake you.

Again, don’t be fooled. There is an answer. In our limited and imperfect mind, we don’t see a solution. In the frailty of our body, we don’t see these broken shards coming back together. These bones of ours coming back to life. But look at the cross. Christ went through the shame and pain of the cross, and made it into something beautiful. This shows the magnificence of God. This is the solution to our soul. There isn’t a way to figure these things out. No easy path. But God can make a way, whether he has to go against the rules of reality or such. God is perfect. God is all-knowing. But above all, God is innocent. He was able to turn the pain of the Cross into beauty. Can he do the same for whatever happens in our life? So let’s let go of our own understanding. May we put God in His place as healer, and may we fully trust in Him and His power.

If there is any peace If there is any war We must all believe Our lives are not our own We all belong, God has given us each other And we will never walk alone
